History
With an uneventful childhood of living in Solaceon Town, Sinnoh, Griff, then going by his actual name Spencer, built his life on exploring ruins, learning about myths, legends and history, admiring the stars and becoming the best pilot he could be. While training to become a pirate, he met a woman who he quickly fell in love with. They were together for a few years, going on dates. What Griff never noticed at the time that any of his ramblings about the future he wanted them to have was met with indifference and fact, hostility at times. When he suggested marriage, he was quickly rejected, and, heartbroken, he found out that the woman he had fallen so hard for was already married to someone else, with other kids.
Heartbroken and bitter, he broke up with her, only to have a child - their child, he was told - shoved onto him. She refused to take the child, and so dumped the baby on him. With not a clue of how to take care of a baby, being an only child, he hired a childminder to look after Mary - whom he named after his aunt - while he worked non-stop on building planes and flying them. His favourite plane was the Griffon - eventually, people started calling 'the guy who flies the Griffon' Griff. That name ended up sticking.
Griff was always cold towards Mary when she was younger. Every time she asked about her mother, he, at first, ignored her, but after a while he started to get grumpy. Eventually, she stopped asking, which made Griff a little happier, but still without the knowledge of how to look after a child, he remained distant. That is, until Mary started to reach out to him by asking questions about history and astronomy. He warmed up to her after a while, happy to share his knowledge with her and promising that he would one day fly her up past the atmosphere and into space, and they would fly together among the stars.
When he was twenty-nine, Mary at seven, he sent in a job application to Sinnoh's space station to offer himself up as an astronaut or even an engineer. However, his application was rejected, and Griff had his hopes and dreams crushed because he 'was not suitable for the space programme'. With no other option, he turned to Team Galactic, willing to join them and help them in their goal of reaching space if it meant that he would be able to see stars and planets with the daughter who he had grown to love, the daughter he completely and utterly devoted himself to.
