History
Ulrich grew up on a small island in the middle of the ocean. His family was a family of farmers and ranchers who utilized pokemon to take care of their farm. He was raised under the mentality that pokemon were really good friends. He got to know every pokemon his parents used and took good care of them. He learned how to both take care of plants and pokemon in his youth.
His best friend on the tiny island was his chidhood friend Rune. He was always told that they met as infants and Rune looked out for him almost immediately. They had different philosophies on pokemon, but agreed that they had to be friends. They raised a Krabby together. Rune taught him how to battle and Ulrich took care of him. The three of them were inseparable.
Rune took Ulrich with her when she decided to leave the tiny island and see the world. Everything was going fine until their ship sunk and they were left stranded. Ulrich washed up on the shores of Johto with their Krabby. He worried for what happened to Rune and began searching for her. He sought her throughout the Johto region with no luck.
He got side-tracked by various distractions. He lived in a village for several months that needed help with their berry trees. He helped an old man make apricots. He took care of an elderly lady who had fallen ill and couldn't make it to town. Every time he was free and looked for Rune he ended up getting caught up in another distraction.
On his quest he met a small Espurr. The pokemon didn't like Ulrich at first, but they always seemed to end up in the same place. Ulrich finally broke down her defenses with kindness and now Espurr has joined him on his quest.
Ulrich came across Team Rocket in his time in Johto. He didn't like what they did most of the time. He tried to stop them, but really he was just a minor nuisance. He hardly caused them any difficulty. They wouldn't even try to take his pokemon because of how useless he was. Still he tried his best. He managed to upset on of their Elites and had to go on the run for a while.
He ended up in Kanto where he ran into some grunts from Team Flare. They sheltered him while he escaped the Rocket scouts. They told him their plot to make the world beautiful, but omitted the destroying it part. He decided that they were all good people and wanted to help. They gave him a stylish pair of sunglasses and let him do what he pleased. The Elite that gives him orders often send Ulrich out alone to keep him preoccupied while they do what they need to. Occasionally they'll need help winning over a small town or have him take care of some of their pokemon. Even though his assignments were minor he always seemed to find a way to work everything out, even when he couldn't explain how everything just miraculously went his way.
He had never forgotten about Rune, but he never got any clues about her. He would ask people every time he entered a new town. He constantly bothered his superiors for information about her. Alas, he never caught on to Rune's trail. However one day everything changed. Rune walked right up to him. He was so happy to finally see her again, but he could tell she had changed a lot. She never wanted to talk about what happened to her after they were separated beyond vague stories. He still always tried to do what he could for her. She would smile to him, but he felt that something was sad about it.
