For thousands of years humanity clawed and fought their way to become the masters of the world, evolving, building, innovating and ultimately winning the war against nature. However, their presence as the top of the food chain felt all too brief in the face of The Calamity. One hundred years ago a large portion of central Russia went silent of radio transmission and soon this silence spread throughout a large portion of Eastern Europe and Asia. Nature changed to something far different than what humanity had ever faced, with creatures that could jump the height of a building and land that would try and swallow a man beginning to appear. Chaos ensued in the wake of the spread towards the capitals of central Europe and throughout China, but after only a few years the disease like effects of whatever had happened stopped their heist of the world and rested.

No one has entered more than a few hundred miles since The Calamity occurred. Reports of giant beasts larger than human imagination and earth that heaves to breath came from the initial reports, but so far the reason for this event remains a mysterious and burning question at the center of humanity’s greatest fear.
