History
"This ship is no place for a child."
That was the original plan, at least -- the family supposedly being raised off the decks of a crass ship, and in the safety of a home. However, the plan was thrown away when Killian's mother died shortly after his birth. His father, also the 'captain' of said ship (it was a smaller crew, really), felt as though he couldn't take care of a son on his own. It was a community job, and there was no better community than a crew of a ship, right?
So, Killian's life begins on a the deck of a ship. While there's not much for a child to do, he makes do with playing simple games with the crew members. Some of the more educated ones take him under their wing, act as tutors and teach Killian the basics - reading, writing, mathematics, the works. His father taught him how to operate a ship, the mechanics and all. That was the plan, really, to teach Killian how to become as great of a sailor as his father dreamed of him to be. Of course, a look into the future and it shows that Killian is far from what his father would have wished, but Killian's long past living up to what his father's expectations were.
Killian Reyes was never a man to sit still and let bad deeds act through, and his earlier years simply show that it's been a running trend (that's continued to be a downhill tumble into extremities). Around the age of seven, his father's boat came across an abandoned fisherman's net, and to their dismay there was an oshawott trapped within it, along with showing signs of losing some recent struggle. After convincing his father to reel the net in closer to the boat, and hauling the struggling pokemon aboard, they managed to cut him free. It took some time, however, to deal with the various gashes and other injuries accompanying the struggle, and it was in that time that Killian and the oshawott grew rather close. He'd nursed it, although it wasn't much more than feeding it and making sure someone was always on top of changing dressings, but it started to form the bond essential in becoming something of friends.
To which, led to a Dmitri being added to Killian's party. The oshawott became something of an honorary member of the crew, taking more of a shine to Killian than anyone else. His father permitted him to taking care of it, although the matter of training became something of a problem when being restricted to the deck of a ship. Within the year, Killian was given his very own pokeball, to which Dmitri happily took to. It was as if a deal had been signed - friends for life.
Fast forward thirteen fairly uneventful years and Killian is sixteen years old. After a certain bout of trouble that he tended to get into when settling in ports for a few days, he managed to settle himself on Team Aqua's radar. He hadn't meant to do something that would attract the attention of Team Aqua, he was simply standing up for what he was convinced was right at the time. A group of people who were dumping some nasty sludge into the ocean had their asses handed to them, ending up smelling like the filth they were spreading into the ocean and unconscious in some alleyway for the authorities to take care of.
Killian didn't get word of Team Aqua until a few months later, however, after he landed in Cinnabar Island to pick up supplies. His father told him to be careful, and Killian was on his way to exploring as he often did, a Dmitri by his side. Within moments, they'd gotten stopped by a recruiting member of Team Aqua, someone who noticed that had happened in the last port.
Killian gracefully accepted the offer to join Team Aqua, and although it didn't go over well with his father, left to be a part of the team. Through hard work and a particularly strong drive, he managed to work himself through the ranks - and eight years later he's a proud admin. While he tends to disagree with most of Aqua's ideals, he's learned that sometimes good men have to do questionable things to achieve good means.
