♛ | THE RULES FOLLOW 'EM TO A "T", PLEASE |
IN CHARACTER
1;; A simple rule to follow. You can not, by any means, control another person's character. They are theirs to role play, not yours, and therefore should be written as such. If you are worried that you might have broken this rule, leave an out of character note at the bottom and we, the staff, will decide whether it's okay or not.
2;; Like above, this is a somewhat easy rule to follow. You may not make your character invincible, no matter the circumstances. Every Pokemon gets hurt no matter how powerful they are. Your Pokemon may dodge blows, but keep said action to a bare minimal. We suggest a three to one ratio. For every three hits, you may have an attack miss.
3;; Though we won't be too terribly upset with you if you stray away from this, we'd prefer this roleplaying forum to remain in past tense third person. It simply makes things slightly more uniform. If you're just too used to first or second person or present or future tense and struggle making the adjustment, of course, we won't bother you about it. Really, this is more of a suggestion than a rule.
4;; This is a given. Unless one is closing a thread, you should always makes sure that you're writing in a way that the other person can reply to. And, even then, sometimes you'll want to post in such a manner when posting one of the last posts in a thread in case the other roleplayer still wishes to post. It's not very fun when your characters are running off or walking away right in the middle of a thread. Unless you've permission or there are more people in the thread to reply to, we suggest you refrain from leaving threads as abruptly as that.
5;; We do not have a specific word count here on Heavy Crowns. While we all shudder in disgust at the sheer thought of posts with merely one sentence, we also know that muses are tricky things and it's not always easy cranking out a certain number of words. We expect that you be responsible about this lack of a word count, however, and ask that you simply have one or two well structured paragraphs for every in character post at the very least. You are welcome - encouraged, even - to go as above and beyond that as you wish, however.
6;; Lastly, we ask, beg, pray that you all make good use of the wonder that is the spell check if you are prone to spelling errors or even if you just have the occasional slip. Truly, it is only there to help you. After all - typos can lead to confusion and confusion can lead to mistakes. While we won't get on you about not being absolutely perfect, we do ask that you utilize this helpful button to the best of your abilities.
OUT OF CHARACTER
1;; Simple. Respect others. And this means everyone - the staff, your fellow members, even guests. If someone is saying hurtful things to you, ignore them. Saying hurtful things back will only get you in trouble as well. You don't have to be the friendliest person in the world - just don't be the meanest.
2;; Keep your fighting to a minimum. We know sometimes others can irritate you a bit, but don't go picking fights left and right. Be kind to others and they'll be kind to you. And if you must fight with someone else, keep it outside the site. We don't want the chat box being flooded with hurtful comments or the out of character boards and private messages.
3;; If you will be leaving, please leave a notice on the leaving board. We can understand if it's something that comes up on a short notice, but if it's something that will keep you from role playing that you know in advance, you must let us know. You might be thought to be inactive, other wise, and risk getting your account deleted.
4;; You do not have to log in daily, but we suggest you log in at least once a week to catch up on any updates. If you have not logged in in a month or two without posting in the leaving board, the staff will decide whether to consider you inactive, which will result in the deletion of your account. After 3 months of inactivity, there will be no question about deleting your account.
5;; There will be no in character posts in the out of character boards unless it is for a thread in the alternate universe boards or the forum games. Other then that, keep everything out of character - that's why it's called what it is.
CHARACTERS
1;; Mary Sues and Gary Stus are not tolerated. Every person in real life has their strengths and weaknesses. Why shouldn't your characters be the same? When making your character, think about if their personality would be that of a person in real life. If your not sure if your character is a Mary Sue or not, look up a test and see if they are. If they are, then try to edit them and make them more realistic.
2;; We suggest that, during roleplay, you refrain from using more than one character in a post. Sometimes, this can grow rather confusing and throw the entire thread off. If you wish, you may switch characters by having one leave and another join or - if you absolutely must for the sake of the thread - post as both as though they were separate posts, but in the same post.
3;; This is a one account per character forum. Therefor, you must have one account for every character and no more than that unless you are a staffer. In addition, there is no limit on the number of characters you may play. However, please contain yourself and don't create more than you can handle. Try to keep them all active if you can. If you can't, putting characters that you feel you can no longer play up for adoption in the adoption board or simply archiving them may be a good idea.
4;; Pokemon are not playable characters. Don't ask, because the answer will always be no.
5;; You are only allowed one Pokemon to start off with, and are limited by how much money that Pokemon costs. By being of a certain rank, you start with a fixed sum of site currency, and if your desired starter costs anymore than that sum, you will have to settle with something else.
GENERAL
1;; Avatars may be no larger than one hundred pixels by one hundred pixels. Signatures may be no wider than seven hundred and fifty pixels, and while they may be as tall as you wish, we ask you make them no taller than four hundred. Any additional graphics in posts also may not be any wider than that for the sake of stretching the board.
2;; If you are wanting to use original art for your character, you must, must, must contact a staffer first and get the a-okay; you cannot use anyone else's original character designs unless we get their permission directly from them to us, and we have to make sure that you're not falsely claiming someone else's art as your own should you be wanting to use your own character design for a character.
3;; Have fun! That's the whole point of the site! May you enjoy your time here at Heavy Crowns!
